"Plus One" Review

Dear Bookdragons,

If you haven't read Plus One by Elizabeth Fama, I strongly suggest you do. If you look on Goodreads, there are mixed reviews about this book, but I will tell you why I thoroughly enjoyed this read.

Firstly, the characters Fama created are beautifully thought out and just so likeable for the ack of a better word.  Sol is a great main character; feisty, speaks her mind and is driven by the love she has for her Poppu. She may appear to be impulsive and irrational, but she does everything with a noble purpose. She is witty, clever, and strongly opinionated. D'Arcy is honestly my favourite character in this book. He is the complete opposite of Sol. He keeps her grounded and focused on her goal. His levelheadedness and resourcefulness prove to be quite helpful throughout the book. I also like how Fama expertly weaved a history between Sol and D'Arcy.

Secondly, the actual writing of this book was actually interesting. Fama used French quite often throughout this book. It worked really well and found myself liking it more than I expected. The plot of this book was fast-paced, logical and captivating. Even though we were thrown into a new dystopian society at the beginning of this book, I never found myself confused. Everything about the world that Fama created makes sense and is not far-fetched at all.

Lastly, what made me really enjoy the book was the ending. Fama didn't do the easy "Happily ever after" and "The End". No, no, no. She took the harder yet more logical route and gave us a worthy ending that JUST MAKES SENSE.

Although I really liked this book, I don't want a sequel. I find that even though Fama is a great writer, the second one would inevitably fall short of this one. The ending of the first book would have no more value since it would be replaced most likely sappy happy ending. Lord knows this is what happens with most sequels...

In brief, if you haven't read this hopefully-standalone book, I strongly suggest you do. I have learned that not only should you nit judge a book by its cover, but also not by its Goodreads rating.

Recommendation Thurday!

Hey Book Dragons!

It's Recomendation Thursday so here are some great reads you have got to get a move on if you haven't already.

In the Romance department, Samantha Young is always one of my "go-to"s . I find that the characters she creates are completely relatable, and therefore make the stories altogether more captivating. Wether it be the On Dublin Street series, the Into the Deep duology or the new Hero book that came out this year, she hits the nail right on the head with every single one of her books.

In the Fantasy genre, I recommend Kelley Armstrong's Age of Legends series. I absolutely adore this series. So far there are two out of the three planned books out on shelves; Sea of Shadows and Empire of Night. I had the greatest pleasure of meeting Kelley at her Enpire of Night book launch, and she is amazing, so if you haven't read this series by her and are looking for a Fantasy read, you better get on that ;)

Stated above are my recommendations for this week! Those should keep you busy at least until Monday :)

Don't forget to check back often!

Review Tuesday "A Court of Thorns and Roses"

Hey book dragons!

I just recently (10 minutes ago) finished ACOTAR. I was blown away. There are many reasons why I absolutely loved this book. (Contains spoilers so keep reading on your own accord)

Firstly, although Feyre becomes a High Lord at the end of the book, she accomplishes all the daunting tasks and faces fearsome Fae with a stoic courage that is worth striving for. She follows her heart to the best of her capabilities and I greatly admire her for that. In many other books I have read, the main character is always special. Special in the sense that they are not human and therefore explains why they were able to do all those wonderful things. In ACOTAR, we are proven through fantasy fiction that we, humans, can achieve greatness if we only choose to follow our hearts.

Secondly, the antagonist of this novel was extremely cunning and sneaky and God I loved to hate her. She was so interesting and manipulative.

Thirdly, Rhysand was one of my favourite characters in the book. He did everything in his power to help Feyre and avoid collateral damage. He is respectable (to a point) and that makes me like him.

Fourthly, the Feyre & Tamlin action between the sheets got me all hot and bothered if you know what I mean ;)

Lastly, the plot Sarah J. Mass created was beautifully weaved together to perfection. (Yes, my poetic side comes out when I review beautiful books) The world she created is immaculate and utterly captivating. Thank you Sarah J. Maas for another great start to a series I cannot wait to continue.

Happy reading!

Review Tuesday!

Hello book dragons!

I have a review of "Fault Line" by Christa Desir for you guys! (Spoilers included so if you haven't read it yet: STOP RIGHT THERE)

Fault Line is a wonderful book about how one event can change a person completely. How rape can change a person close to you and render them unrecognizable.

Ben is a swimming scholarship prospect and overall good guy. Smart, dedicated and loyal. When he meets Ani the summer before starting senior year, he is utterly captivated by her. They become and item, but everything changes when Ani goes to a party and Ben doesn't go with her. Ani is slipped roofies and blacks out about the previews night, and ends up with a lighter inside her.

I absolutely love the frankness of this book. Everything seems so accurate and real. Hence the name of the book, everyone blames themselves, but who is really to blame? As Ani tries to et control of her life, Ben is losing control of his. Touching and moving, it's a definite "to-read" book so go ahead and add it to your bookshelves on Goodreads and at home!

Happy reading!

Book Haul Sunday

Dear fellow book dragons,

Last week was a great week for book releases. Especially on May 5th, where TWO HIGHLY ANTICIPATED BOOKS RELEASED! (That deserved a little excitement; maybe more than a bit) I kind of splurged on books that week... I got 4 beautiful books!

As you may have realized from my last post, I love C. Desir! Her book Fault Line rendered me speechless, and a review is coming to you on Tuesday :) I really enjoyed reading The Selection by Kiera Cass, so when I heard there would be a forth, I was ecstatic! *Insert emoji of choice* I have started A Court of Thorns and Roses, and trying to read it in between study sessions and work.(failing miserably by the way) Strands of Bronze and Gold was on sale at Chapters so how can I say no to a beautiful book like that? ;)

Happy Reading!

Recommendation Thursday

Hey fellow bookworms! (or book dragons if you prefer)

Sorry I haven't been on lately. I've been swarmed with school and exams. I have found the time to read though! *yay* If you guys are looking for anything to read I've got you covered. C. Desir is an amazing author I just admire so much. She's gutsy in the subjects she writes about and really captures the essence of the themes in her books(in my opinion). So far she has two books out called Fault Line and Bleed Like Me. These are their covers so if you see them at the bookstore you can snatch them off the shelves:

If your looking for a less heavy read, The Heir by Kiera Cass came out last week! It's such a pretty cover (like all the other ones) and its a selection for America and Maxon's daughter, so she will be choosing from a group of men *swoon*. Haven't read it yet, because I'm currently reading A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas, and I'm telling you guys that I'm loving it so far. Those are great if you're looking for a little fantasy in your life.

Want Romance? Boy do I have some great reads for you! Laurelin Paige is an amazing writer, and her Fixed series is spectacular. Callie Hart is also an astounding author with her Blood and Roses series. Other great reads are Mani Mann's Shadows duology, Adriana Locke's The exception and The Perception, and finally Samantha Young is always one of my favorites .

Happy Reading :)

Make sure to get your hands on the books and start reading them ASAP. You wont regret it !
